Symposium: The Born-Digital Challenge in Private Archives: Research Perspectives and Archival Practices
- 4.10.2023 - 09:15 till 5.10.2023 - 16:30

We are happy to welcome you to a two-day symposium that brings together researchers of literature and digital humanities with archivists to discuss and develop archival practices of born-digital material!
Today’s literature and other cultural content are increasingly created digitally which means that the archive sources of the future will, for the most part, be born-digital documents. However, the archival conventions and research practices of born-digital material, such as digitally created manuscripts, emails or photos, are still in a nascent state in many countries. The way born-digital material is acquired, preserved, and made accessible has a crucial impact on its researchability. In addition to the technical requirements, especially the application of digital forensic tools and methods in archiving and research of born-digital material raise important legal and ethical questions. To address these issues, the archival research network ARNE (University of Helsinki) is organizing an international two-day symposium together with the archives of the Finnish Literature Society (SKS) and the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS).
