The Society of Swedish Literature in Finland funds research related to the Swedish language and culture in Finland, primarily in the humanities and social sciences, through grants for postgraduate students and doctors. SLS also finances research projects. Major areas of research include ethnology, folkloristics, history, literature, musicology, linguistics (the Swedish language) and society. SLS is one of the major financiers in the fields of humanities and social sciences in Finland. For many young scholars, funding from SLS is of great importance. SLS also employs scholars.

SLS funds and conducts projects in academic research and within the framework of scholarly editions and collection of cultural material for future research. Grants for research are awarded from a number of funds.

Cooperation with universities, other research institutions and funding bodies in Finland and abroad is an important part of the Society’s activities. SLS holds seminars and other events related to current research.
