The SLS Library is a special research library focused on Finland-Swedish culture. The library holds volumes of old and new literature in the humanities. We actively contribute to research and education, particularly in our own area of specialisation, book history. The library contains a number of valuable book history collections and a large collection of booklets and pamphlets from various periods. The SLS Library has branches in Helsinki and Vaasa.
The Helsinki branch library specialises in book history, ethnology, folkloristics, literature and linguistics as well as biographical and cultural history. In terms of novelists, Johan Ludvig Runeberg, Zacharias Topelius and the Finland-Swedish modernists are key figures.
The Vaasa branch library is a reference library emphasising local history, ethnology, folkloristics and folk music. There is also a recordings library containing primarily Swedish and Finland-Swedish folk music.
We serve our customers through reading room loans and reference and information services. Please contact SLS Customer Service before visiting the library, as part of its collections need to be ordered at least a day in advance.
