Grants From The Delegation For The Promotion Of Swedish Literature

The printing costs of the book for which funding is sought must be based on a quote from a printer. The publisher can only apply for funding for actual printing costs. The printing grant may not be spent on image processing costs, layout fees, royalties or the cost of posting books, for example. Printing quotes do not need to be enclosed with the application. However, SLS may ask to see copies.

Translation:

Grants may be applied for to a maximum of the translation fee agreed with the translator. The maximum translation grant that can be awarded for a single project is EUR 4,000.

A translation grant can only be applied for if

• a contract has been signed between the publisher and the rights holder of the original work
• a contract has been signed between the publisher and the translator

The publisher’s contracts with the translator and the rights holder do not need to be enclosed with the application. However, SLS may ask to see copies.

Fiction

Applications for funding can be made for prose, poetry, children's and young adult literature, printed drama and graphic novels.

Funding is not granted retroactively for works that have already been published or for new editions.

Non-fiction

Funding is provided for general non-fiction, essays and memoirs.

Applications can be made for funding for translations from Finnish to Swedish, published in printed works and in academic journals published in Finland.

Funding is not awarded to academic dissertations, reference works (e.g. dictionaries), handbooks or teaching materials.

Funding is not granted retroactively for works that have already been published or for new editions.

• The applicant must requisition payment in the same application system in which the application was made.
• Payment is conditional upon the publisher signing and returning the agreement sent by SLS in accordance with the requirements of the Act on Discretionary Government Transfers (688/2001) as soon as possible.
• The grant is paid into the bank account specified in the requisition once the publisher has submitted four copies of the book to SLS.
• The grant decision remains valid for 24 months after the date on which the grant is awarded.
• The publisher must deliver four copies of the finished work to SLS as soon as the book is published, however no later than 24 months after the date on which the grant was awarded. If the work has not been received by SLS by this deadline, the grant will be revoked.
• The published book must acknowledge the following: Published with the support of the Delegation for the promotion of Swedish literature, administered by the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland.

The publisher agrees to use the grant for the purposes for which it was intended. If the grant has not been spent in accordance with the instructions, the grant will be reclaimed.

If the project is interrupted or changed significantly following submission of the application, the publisher is to inform SLS (qryrtngvbara@fyf.svif.sls@nenoitageled ) without delay.
