SLS Customer Service

Do you have any questions about SLS activities? Do you need help finding material from the archival collections or searching in the databases? Would you like to know more about a particular event? You can get answers to these questions and more by visiting SLS Customer Service at one of its two locations. You can also contact SLS Customer Service by phone or by e-mail.

SLS Customer Service in Helsinki is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

SLS Customer Service in Vaasa is open Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

SLS Customer Service in Helsinki is located in the SLS building at Ritarikatu 5, entry around the corner from the Kirkkokatu side, and entry for disabled guests from Ritarikatu 5. You can also contact us by phone on +358 9 618 777 or e-mail info@sls.fi. Send e-mail to the SLS Archives to arkivet@sls.fi. At SLS Customer Service staff from the SLS Archives guide and assist the visitor in finding material. There is a separate reading room with capacity for six people, where you can study material from the archives. The SLS receptionist answers questions about events, scholarships and everything else that SLS has to offer. SLS Customer Service provides brochures and other information material, and hosts exhibitions, etc., (all in Swedish). There is a reading area where you can read magazines or familiarise yourself with books recently published by SLS as well as other products.

From us you can

  • get information about archival material or books         
  • get factual information within our special areas which include Finland-Swedish literature, history, folk culture, ethnology, language, naming customs and folk music                             
  • search in databases, lists and card indexes
  • search for photos in databases and registers
  • conduct research using the archives or read books in the reading room.
  • listen to tape recordings
  • read microfilmed material
  • order copies of material (see price list for copies)
  • You can consume food and beverages that you have brought with you in our café space (Note: we do not sell food or beverages).
Most of the archival collections may be freely ordered and studied. However, some collections are subject to authorisation. Our staff can assist you in these cases.

Note that some of our archival material in Helsinki is held in the National Library of Finland. You can see the physical locations of material in our collections in the main catalogue Arkiva. The National Library of Finland has its own customer service and can be contacted at kk-erik@helsinki.fi.

The Swedish Theatre’s archives are stored in a separate repository in Helsinki. Retrievals from the Swedish Theatre’s archives are made on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The material is delivered to the customer from 12 noon.

Retrievals from the Sarvlaks Archives are made on request as required.

The book you are looking for may be in storage in a repository. Please contact us 24 hours in advance.

  • Day before Midsummer Eve
  • 23 Dec (if a weekday)
  • 31 Dec (if a weekday)
  • Maundy Thursday

SLS Customer Service in Vaasa is located at Kauppapuistikko with street-level entry. You can also contact us by phone on +358 6 319 56 00 or e-mail arkivet@sls.fi. At SLS Customer Service staff from the SLS Archives and SLS/Finland-Swedish Folk Music Institute guide and assist the visitor in finding material. There is a separate reading room where you can study material from the archives, read books from the SLS Library or listen to music from our recordings library. SLS Customer Service provides brochures and other information material (mainly in Swedish). There is a reading area where you can read magazines or familiarise yourself with books and CDs as well as other products recently published by SLS and SLS/Finland-Swedish Folk Music Institute.
